BIMM Live Winter 2023 Review
The 2023 season came to end on 13th December at the O2 Institute 3 with the anticipated return of BIMM Live. It showcased a 13-act line up, comprising a range of indie, singer-songwriter, rap, R&B, and metal music, with BIMM Birmingham’s own Ellie West on sound. The turn out didn’t disappoint, a celebration of the hard work of students across disciplines.
The event was opened by The Chinese Quarter who had the crowd clapping and shouting from the start, setting an energising tone for the evening. The Chinese Quarter’s Oli Roberts stayed on stage to accompany Daisy Peacock’s set of heartfelt originals which earned a sea of swaying phone torches. The Eldest Never Dies continued to engage the crowd with an animated and high energy set, performing with an air of confidence and professionalism. Bringing a distinct approach to involving the crowd, getting close to the barricade, guiding chants and waving, Tidez put on a great show. Remii Blacks had a standout performance, with her emotional second song ‘Forever In My Heart’ exploring grief and loss moving the crowd. The night was brought to a close by Denied Legacy, the heaviest act of the night, leading to multiple pits opening up on the floor which left the crowd buzzing.
Overall, it was a special night highlighting skilled musicians and the support from peers and like-minded individuals was uplifting and inspirational. If this event was anything to go on, BIMM Live next semester will be another incredible event.
