‘Reality Shifter’ - The Skeme

Released on the 16th of February, ‘Reality Shifter’ opens with a funk-inspired bassline that anchors the track. The chord stabs, which lead the chorus, interrupt the warm and flowing riff that defines the introduction and verse to draw your attention to the lyrics: ‘If you want to come with me / Shifting through realities’. The prominent lyrical themes are complimented well by the hypnotic instrumental arrangement. The influence of The Kooks and The Strokes on their writing is clearly evident in their guitar while the prominence and intricacy of the bassline also speaks to their inspiration by bass-centric acts such as Arctic Monkeys and Stevie Wonder. The vocals are reminiscent of the soft style of The Smiths and their indie roots.
